Every Wednesday a group of our students take part in a Taekwondo session with Learning Leader Fran – who is also a black belt!
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art which emphasizes speed and agility – and lots of high kicks! Fran has been teaching the students as part of our WOW Wednesday extra-curricular activities.
School student Jonathan has really taken to the sport – you can see him in the video here teaching college student Winston one of his routines.
Fran told us:
‘It’s great that Jonathan can help me with teaching the class, as it means we can spend more time with all of the students.
‘We have been learning the five tenets of Taekwondo as well as the movements; these are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. The tenets help our students learn to respect each other and always try their best.’
Fran is hoping to organise a special grading in the future, so that our students of all abilities can be assessed on the skills they have learned.
