Volunteer

We are always keen to hear from new volunteers who wish to join our team. However, in light of ongoing development regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are not currently placing new volunteers into active roles.

When the situation allows we will update our volunteer information and role descriptions on this page and advertise them on our social media channels. Please do keep checking back, or follow our Facebook page to stay updated. You can also contact us to express your interest in volunteering and we will keep your details on file.

Volunteer roles are often varied, and may include distributing leaflets, collecting donations, giving talks, registering participants at an event, or managing local collection boxes. Whatever the role is, we will make sure to give you a friendly Deaf Academy welcome and full support.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at this time.

Collection box Volunteer
Terms & Conditions: .1-2 days every 3-4 months, ongoing. Training will be provided. This role would begin from September 2020.
This is a voluntary role

The Deaf Academy is a locally based charity that provides specialist education and residential care to Deaf young people. We are at an exciting time in our history as we prepare to open a brand new world-class Deaf Academy in Exmouth, Devon, in September 2020. The bespoke architecture, Deaf friendly design, and specialised equipment will provide an outstanding place for Deaf education, helping our students to thrive.

As a non-maintained special school and charity we are reliant on donations and fundraising to provide our specialist support and bespoke facilities to our amazing Deaf students, now and in the future. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our small fundraising team as a collection box volunteer.

We are looking for a self-motivated, friendly person who can be the first port of call for all collection box opportunities in Exmouth and the local area.  We have a number of boxes already placed around Exmouth and these need to be regularly serviced, (emptied and swapped). Donations need to be counted, recorded and thanked.  As a collection box volunteer you would be positively promoting the Deaf Academy to the general public and local businesses, building understanding and empathy with our cause.  Getting to know local businesses is an important part of this role.  You would be visiting businesses every 3-4 months and developing relationships with them.  There would also be opportunities to expand the number of businesses that have our boxes, doing research and finding out which businesses might like to help.

This is a role for someone with experience of working with the public and building positive working relationships. You will be a confident self-starter with a can-do attitude who enjoys working in a team and is motivated by helping others.

Our vision is a brighter future for Deaf young people. If you feel you could be part of this story, we would like to hear from you.

The role would be based out in the local Exmouth community and local areas, as well as at the new Deaf Academy campus on Douglas Avenue in Exmouth. Advice and equipment, where appropriate, to reduce risk of Covid-19 will be provided for this role.
