The public are invited to attend a consultation event to view the proposals for the new Deaf Academy planned for the Rolle Site in Exmouth. The public consultation is on Wednesday 10 May, from 2– 8pm in the Estuary Suite at Ocean Blue on the Esplanade.
We have an extraordinary ambition – to build a brand new global exemplar Deaf Academy in Exmouth.
The Exmouth Rolle site was purchased in September 2016 to create a new home for the Deaf Academy. In conjunction with the architectural and town planning studios at Stride Treglown, we are now pleased to be able to present a proposal for the site, which both meets the ambitions of the Deaf Academy and hopefully the aspirations of the local community.
A planning application for the exciting plans will be submitted to East Devon District Council at the start of July. The public are invited to see what the future might hold for the site and give their feedback on the emerging proposals before the planning application is submitted.
The former Rolle College had a positive impact on thousands of students and their families, and we are similarly committed to providing a facility for future generations of students and the local community.
The new proposed site layout focusses on creating a successful and dynamic education environment for the future students, whilst providing a homely feel to the boarding accommodation working with the unique qualities and constraints of the Rolle Campus site.
The new Deaf Academy in Exmouth will be designed specifically for young Deaf learners, a place of light, colour, enjoyment, discovery and achievement. It will inspire Deaf children to fulfil their dreams and equip them to live successful and happy lives when they leave. Its design, and the education and care within it, will be a global exemplar for the provision of services for Deaf young people.
Being part of a community is at the heart of the proposed vision. We will look to make theatre facilities available for local people, allowing others to benefit from the new Academy. We wish our students to become confident, independent young people, actively participating in and contributing to the local community.
These new proposals will enable us to build on our proud 190-year history and start an exciting new chapter in Exmouth, creating a brighter future for Deaf children and young people.
If you are not able to attend the event, the proposals are available to view online from 10 May on our new build webpages.
The public can submit their feedback online from 10 May via an online survey which is open for 2 weeks.
