On Friday 1 March we marked the official start of construction of our new home in Exmouth with Midas, the construction company who are building our £10.5 million new Deaf Academy which opens next year!

Former student, Nikki James, with current students, Lily, Hugh, and Winston, broke the ground before handing the spade over to the Chairman of Midas, Steve Hindley CBE, to symbolically entrust the build of our new Academy to Midas. After the small groundbreaking ceremony, students were treated to a celebration fish & chip lunch at Krispies in Exmouth, who are one of our charity partners.

Nikki James said, “It’s an exciting future for a connected deaf and hearing community. We will be taking Exeter Deaf Academy’s rich heritage with us to build upon in Exmouth. Generations of deaf young people will achieve great things on the ground we stand on today”.
