Our School
Welcome to our school, where young people are treated as individuals.
Our young learners are supported to develop into independent and successful learners with a positive Deaf identity – ensuring they have high levels of self-esteem and confidence in themselves. All of our students are challenged to achieve excellence in academic performance whatever their ability. We aim to provide the best learning community we can by developing our students’ use of both British Sign Language (BSL) and English, written and oral.
We involve parents and carers in all aspects of their child’s education and maintain strong links via regular newsletters, the school website and, most importantly, via an open door policy for parents and carers to come and talk to us.
We hope you will find everything you need to know about our school on this website but the only true way to experience life in our school is to visit us – so, if you haven’t been here before, please take the opportunity to see for yourself the high quality education we offer – contact us at reception@thedeafacademy.ac.uk to arrange a visit.

Thanks to the Deaf Academy, my daughter has had the opportunity to discover and develop a passion for acting. She has found drama helps her express herself in a way that she hadn’t been able to before. – Beth, parent to Molly, age 17
