On 17th September 2015 history was made as Scotland passed the BSL (British Sign Language) Bill. This means that BSL is recognised as an official language and is now given the same legal protection as Gaelic. The bill received backing from all political parties and now requires public authorities to develop a plan on how they will improve access to information in BSL.

This is a huge achievement for the Deaf community and our staff and students have created the below video to say congratulations and ‘well done Scotland’ on this significant event.
