College student Elliott has started a weekly work experience placement with our Maintenance Team. Today, he has been helping Paul and Wayne with the playground construction works.

So far, Elliott has learnt important skills in Health & Safety, Building Site Etiquette, Team Working and Communicating Signals.

Construction work is a physical outdoor job but Elliott has been working hard and says it is rewarding to be able to help build the new playground.

Paul and Wayne kindly let Elliott sit on the dumper and digger for the purpose of these photos, before Elliott was put back to work as their Site Spotter.

A Spotter is an important role on a building site. Elliott’s job is to assist the driver of the digger by being a second pair of eyes and watching out for anything that might cause a risk to Health & Safety. Elliott knows he must always maintain a safe distance, be visible to the driver at all times and stay focused.

“It is great when a chance like this comes up to be able to offer a positive work experience opportunity to a student. Placements like this one helps break down some of the barriers our students often face when trying to find work placements with local employers. My team are giving Elliott valuable skills for the working world in a safe, closely supervised environment. He has impressed us with his team working”.

Well done Elliott!
