Communication Support Worker Debbie Elphick will be taking on the Rome Marathon on the 17th March, to raise money for our wonderful provision.

Debbie began working at the Academy in 2005 and is a highly valued member of our team, showing dedication and enthusiasm in the work she does.

Debbie took up a passion for running following a trip to Rome in 2016, where she witnessed a marathon taking place and felt inspired by what she saw. She has since become an avid runner and has completed 8 marathons to date, as well as countless other races.

Debbie said: ‘To be able to return to Rome to run the marathon and do it for the Deaf Academy will be an amazing accomplishment. It combines two things that are very close to my heart.’

The Acea Run Rome marathon takes participants on a 26-mile tour of all the iconic sites of Rome, beginning and ending at the Colosseum.

Mark Stocks, Partnerships and Community Manager at the Academy said: ‘We wish Debbie the best of luck and a safe journey to Rome, all of the Academy will be cheering her on and we are very grateful that she is using her time to raise money for the Academy.’
