Along with the Tes and Pearson’s national teaching awards, the Deaf Academy have also been shortlisted for a NASS award, that is the National Association of Independent Schools & Non-maintained special schools. The Academy has been shortlisted for the award for innovation, recognising how quickly staff adapted to online teaching during the pandemic.
The Deaf Academy has had a very successful awards season in not only the education sector but also in architecture and building. The brand new academy has recently been shortlisted for an AJ100 Architectural award in the category ‘Community Impact of the Year’.
And shortlisted for a British construction industry award in the category social infrastructure of the year.
And shortlisted for ‘project of the year over £5million’ and ‘education project of the year’, in the Michelmores Awards. This application was led by Midas Group, who constructed the new Academy.
Emma Honey, Head of Property at Michelmores, said: “I’d like to extend my congratulations to the shortlisted projects for the Michelmores Property Awards 2021. We continue to live in uncertain times and like many others, the construction, property and real estate sectors are navigating a series of on-going and unique challenges. The submissions for the awards this year underline the resilience and adaptability of those working in the region and looking ahead there is much to be excited about.”
Mark Stocks, assistant principal at The Deaf Academy, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for these awards, recognising both the incredible space where our students are learning and also the way our staff adapted and innovated to ensure our students received the best education possible during the lockdown periods”.
The Deaf Academy building itself is a truly state-of-the-art, one of a kind building designed around the principals of DeafSpace. The 10 year project came together to create a fantastic educational building that inspired and cultivates Deaf learning.
